Could my veganism, exacerbating my mental illness?
I've been vegetarian for almost 4 years. During that time, my bipolar disorder, GAD and self-harm have gotten worse. I make sure to get enough B12, iron and omega 3, but I always wondered if somehow my veganism was worsening the situation me. NOT want to start eating animal products again, but I wonder if there is some truth in my fears. Please post links to back up their claims, if possible.
Without knowing your diet, this is just speculation! But: You do not mention protein, so I'm thinking that you may not eat enough him. Proteins are the building blocks for neurotransmitters, so that a low intake can effect your mood. First, make sure that you are getting at least the RDA of protein. Then I try a higher protein, yet balanced, diet soy zone. At least, adding soy protein EXTRA Shake once a day for a month can not hurt and could go a long way to cover their bases.
