bipolar brain activity

(Bipolar) Can you figuratively (or literally I guess) have a broken brain? Maybe a short in some connections?
I am Bipolar and a little manic at the moment.
I have always preferred interesting educational television, books, etc but lately I cannot tolerate any other forms of entertainment or activities. It seems the more I learn (specifically physics and philosophy) the more depressed and anxious I get about life. At the same time my irritation has skyrocketed over the most insignificant things.
Can anyone relate?
Thank you
Melissa
“Broken brain” is an interesting phrase. However, your brain is not so much broken as it is wired differently. It’s a lot more difficult to correct the brain’s wiring than it is to fix a broken one. And in bipolar individuals it presents a much bigger and ongoing challenge because these people are most often highly intelligent and able to work around any corrections that are attempted.
You say you are presently in a manic phase. Is this when your intolerance for other forms of entertainment or activity began? If so, since you already have a preference for educational material, specifically physics and philosophy, you are caught in a loop. The mania insists that you concentrate only on these interests. Unfortunately these particular subjects – especially philosophy – delve into issues that would depress and cause anxiety in most individuals, whether or not they are bipolar. For you, the effect is ten-fold.
The mania then drives you to seek further information on these topics in hopes of relieving these feelings, but instead they ratchet up your depression and anxiety, which in turn make you extremely impatient and irritated over other matters which seem trivial and insignificant compared to the issues you are focused upon.
You must break this loop; it is absolutely imperative that you do so. I believe you will not be able to do this alone. You must seek help, and you will most likely require medication for a period of time.
Right now you are like a squirrel inside one of those exercise wheels. You are trapped, and you must get out. Please see a doctor asap. Best of luck to you.
