Depression is simply a reaction because of lack of control or monotony. People become depressed when they experience financial difficulties or the loss of a dear. But some people have genetic predispositions when depression.

The various degrees of chronic depressive moods are caused by chemical imbalances that occur in the brain. Hormonal changes can also depresses the system, while the seasonal cycles can trigger mood depression. Most people suffering from physical illness also are depressed.

Depression is an example of mood disorders. Other examples of mood disorders are dysthymia, postpartum disorder, and bipolar disorder. A person with manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder, experiences periods of extreme highs (or happiness) is followed by a deep crisis (or sadness). There are two ways to treat people with mood disorders like depression. The traditional way is the recommendation made by a psychologist or psychiatrist, which includes giving prescriptions for antidepressants and carry out counseling.
