ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a condition much controversy (as to the opinion of many experts) and yet one that is very difficult for parents and children to try. The symptoms of ADHD may include impulsivity, which is the tendency to act quickly without thinking things through, hyperactivity, in which a person is unable to sit still or concentrate with ease, and lack of attention, in which a person or of dreams seems to space out. There are also several other associated behavioral symptoms that may affect a child with ADHD. Although sometimes the legitimacy of the condition is debated, most Doctors agree that is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder, and one that affects a small percentage of the global population of children. Many doctors also believe that this disorder is chronic and that will affect children, even as adults.

What will help this condition is whether children are taught coping mechanisms in their youth to learn how to manage ADHD as they grow. Do you notice anything to say about this statement? That is correct-the main objective here is to the child learn how to cope with this condition. No way to treat ADHD, even with medication. In fact, the most learned problem involving children and drugs for ADHD, is when parents try to resolve the problem by giving children medicine, hoping that the problem disappears. It simply does not work that way.

A competent doctor will prescribe medicine not only (and only if absolutely necessary), but will also tell the family to incorporate a change in diet, lifestyle and perhaps suggest some behavioral modification along with regular counseling. These recommendations are what will eventually help the child learn to live with ADHD. ADHD drugs will be limited to encourage the child to be able to process this treatment more effectively.

ADHD stimulant medication is safe? The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated that the majority of prescription stimulant medications are safe for children and that children can tolerate the medication for a period of five years. Has not been determined if these drugs have long-term effects-most Beyond this period of time. The American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics have both declared that children should be screened for diseases heart before continuing with medication for ADHD.

Medication can be beneficial?

The good news is that approximately 70% of children have benefited from ADHD drugs, statistically speaking. Stimulant drugs are profitable and are known to tolerate for a small number of years, usually just long enough for the child to approach the legal age. However, this does not mean that ADHD drugs always the answer and is "always" safe. In fact, some stimulant drugs can produce some side effects on physical or mental. Ritalin is one of the drugs covered more negatively in the media and for legal purposes will be the list of side effects in relation to: psychosis, difficulty sleeping, mood swings, nervousness, stomach aches, diarrhea, headaches, poor appetite and weight loss, dry mouth, and irritability. Hence, if a parent is aware of any of these or similar symptoms in your child, you will want to stop or reduce medication, according to the doctor's advice.

Remember that herbal supplements can be considered as drugs for ADHD, but may involve the risk that certain stimulant drugs carry. Many herbal supplements are considered natural treatments for some personality disorders. Research any medication you or your doctor is thinking that always puts the long term your child and take precedence over convenience!
