bipolar new york times

Help, confused over emancipation laws?
I’m 17 years old, live in New York, and my mom is bipolar and abusive. My life is falling apart. I do wonderful in school and I have a part-time job where I make about 400 bucks a month and I’ve found an apartment near my school that I could afford to move into. I’ve read up on the emancipation laws for New York and I’m confused by them. I read that there is no set laws for emancipation in New York and you will be considered emancipated if you are out on your own and supporting yourself. But my question is, if I’m supposed to get out and support myself, how can I do this without having the cops drag me back home? Can they make me go back home, even if I’m attempting to support myself?
You’re 17. You have less than a year to go, then you can do what you want.
