Genograms
* First developed and popularized in clinical settings by Monica McGoldrick and Randy Gerson
* The development, mainly in the intergenerational context theory of Murray Bowen family systems, genograms offer an efficient and effective way to explain the repetitive behaviors and patterns.
* Essentially, genograms are graphic representations of the extended family of an individual who can pass at least three generations.
* Use of genograms implies a respect for intergenerational family experiences as historical antecedents to contemporary areas of strength and difficulty.
* Most genograms includes basic information about the number of families, the number of children in each family, order of birth and death. Some genograms includes information on operational disruption in the family such as alcoholism, depression, disease, alliances, and life situations.
* Genograms reflect a point individual view. Although most family members agree on the fundamentals of a family tree, there may be major differences in describing the relationship among family members.
* Interpretation is influenced by the creator of the genogram. There is no absolute "right" for a family genogram. Different family members may have different perspectives on relations in the family and therefore can construct genograms of the same family very differently.
Scaling Questions
* Used mainly in solving Focused Brief Therapy.
* Used to track differences and progress on the client.
* Helpful in prioritizing goals.
* Scale ranges can be defined each time a question is made.
* Typically worse ranging from zero () to better (ten).
* Customer may classify the same question several times as therapy progresses.
* Customer may request identify times when he was lower on the scale.
* Setting objectives or generating solutions comes from having the client identify what a highest score will be similar to them and what they need to make
* Strength focused questions include "What have you done to reach this (highest) score? "" What has let slip of a point lower down the scale? "
* Exception questions include "Have you time has been higher in the scale? "" What is different in the days that are a higher point on the scale? "" How do you say that was a "higher point" a day? "* Questions focus on the future include" When the scale would be good enough for you? "" What would a day when at point of that? "
