bipolar school accommodations
Accommodation to help high school girl with bipolar disorder?
I live on. California. My 15-year-old daughter has been struggling with bipolar disorder II and has been hospitalized several times. She is medicatipon under a new (again) and therapy. My question is about IEPs and 504 accommodations. She is now attending public school (11th grade). I have a 504 meeting next week and need accommodation suggestions to help. I'm not sure exactly what they want. I have also requested testing and an IEP, that will come later. The 504 is a little more informal and can be done immediately, apparently. She wants to do well and is very bright, but it gets so stressed she can not concentrate. The task is a challenge at times. So reading. The Mood swings are an ongoing problem. Some days I can not be established itself sufficient to absorb the material, even when it is read. I tell him do what he can, but feels that the teachers think less of her. She really wants to be success, but needs support. Anyone who has been there? Thank you.
I am an educator and to read the following sites: http://www.schoolbehavior.com/conditions_bipolar.htm http://www.schoolbehavior.com/Files/tips_mood.pdf http://www.bpkids.org/site/PageServer?pagename=lrn_symptoms I know how frustrating it can be like trying to ensure that their daughters needs are met. I admire you for seeking submissions and encourage you to keep so! Always a pleasure to meet the parents who generally want to see their children receive education they deserve. Please be prepared to feel overwhelmed when you go to the meeting of the 504, but this is not uncommon. Ask a lot questions and demand (if necessary) that the accommodation of all you feel is necessary to review and forever. They also suggest finding a lawyer to attend the meeting with you. Good luck and have a day of quality! They have quite a few tips and suggestions you may find useful.
