bipolar stacey
I think my husband has Bipolar disorder?
My husband has always been difficult to live with, he is such a fantastic person, but many times he is either drinking, feeling depressed or on a complete high where people think he is on drugs.
His dad has Bipolar disorder, and after watching Eastenders last night where the doctor was speaking to Stacey, it hit me, and now I really feel that is what he has.
I have spoke to him before about it, and he laughs and says to not be silly, but now where it is affecting our marriage with how he acts, I want him to see the possibility of what he may have but I neeed advice on how I go about it. Its the first step really, getting him to the doctors. Anyone else had a situation like this?
I don’t agree with using online tests – nor would any psychiatrist, you’ll just add fear with a *maybe* incorrect diagnosis.
I watched that episode; I’m undergoing an episode right now & totally understand how trapped, scared & confused Stacey was.
It’s horribly lonely & scary to be told you are ill – especially when manic; you feel so good & cannot understand why others are concerned – they may as well be talking another language. If your husband has severe mania (loses jobs, acts inappropriately), you can contact emergency dr & request crisis care.
Otherwise *very gently & subtly* suggest he looks at info on bipolar & ask if he recognises the symptoms. I suggest contacting the bipolar support groups or helplines, there are several in the UK, look online; they will have suggestions on getting a diagnosis for a reluctant patient. Remember he doesn’t want to be ill – its scary if others think you are when you don’t. Just be the wonderful, caring wife you are x
