Bipolar and consumption and topamax?

I was recently diagnosed with severe bipolar I. My psychitrist said that I had mixed episodes and rapid cycling. For right now until I get it into my system he has just put me on topamax. I have a two part question. part 1. I have heard alot of people say that people lose alot of weight on topamax…how common is this? and part 2. My psychitrist told me I absolutly had to give up caffiene because with the degree of bipolar I have it is the worst thing I can have, I was wondering what other foods or beverages are good or bad for bipolar? I have been this way for a long long time so anything that could possibly help me day to day get better would be super.

For part one, I haven’t heard of Topamax causing lots of weight loss, but it is possible. (Check my sources for more info.)

For part two, caffeine can easily reek havoc on the bipolar brain simply because it is a stimulant. In order to fight manias, you need to ensure you get a good night’s sleep every single night and your sensitive brain can be over-stimulated by caffeine and limit your ability to sleep well. However, I’m on a few medications that make me like a zombie in the morning so a cup or two of coffee makes the difference so I’m not a zombie all day. You have to take it slow and go as natural, homeopathic and healthy as possible to aid your recovery to stability.

Good luck and if you ever need someone to talk to, please contact me at my blog: www.mercurialscribe.com.
