bipolar xanax

How do I get my doctor to switch me back to xanax?
I am bipolar with random anxiety attacks. I have been on xanax, klonopin, and ativan. I originally was on xanax as needed.. It worked perfectly. My doctor then switched me to ativan as needed.. then switched me to klonopin as needed. The ativan and klonopin took to long to take effect. I am now taking klonopin daily and still suffer from anxiety. I also have severe memory loss as a side effect of the klonopin. My doctor seems to be unwilling to switch me back to xanax which is the only medication that has worked for me. How can I get her to listen to me?
Klonopin is better known for long-term daily use so that is probably why you are on Klonopin. Most doctors reserve Xanax for short-term daily use or “as needed” for sudden panic attacks. I think you have a false impression of the effectiveness of Xanax since it was the first benzodiazapine your body experienced and you only took it as needed. After a week of taking Xanax, it began to feel no different than taking a vitamin. If Klonopin is not controlling your anxiety, I think it would be best to get off of benzodiazapines and find a better solution. Effexor XR and Paxil CR have controlled anxiety very well for me, but they are known to cause mania in bipolar patients. Have you looked into Buspar?
BTW, it scares me that the “pharmacy student” above is recommending SSRIs for a bipolar patient! Yeesh!!!
