My boyfriend Bipolar?Please help.?

My boyfriend of almost 4 months told me he has an anger problem..I can handle that and it hasn’t been bad at all. But recently..I have been feeling like I am talking to two different people..He will be nice, then 5 minutes later he is completely irrational and freaks out over nothing. I asked him, “Why are you angry?” and He just tells me “I don’t know, i can’t figure it out.” So I’m thinking he may have a bipolar disorder..i looked at Cyclothymia and it’s close but not exact.

Please help me figure this out!

I really love being with him..and I want to save our relationship by helping him if he has a mental problem, if he doesn’t then I won’t be sticking around if he just wants to be a jerk.

I strongly doubt that it is bipolar disorder, as other symptoms have to be present, and the only type it could be is rapid cycling bipolar disorder, which is uncommon.

I suggest that you view the techniques for anger management at http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_25.html and page S, (depression; pages 3, and B) some of which follow, and print, or show him.

In his case, there may well be unresolved issues from his past which his subconscious mind keeps bringing up. “I don’t know, i can’t figure it out.” – his conscious mind doesn’t know, but his subconscious mind certainly does, and is communicating to his conscious mind in one of the few ways available to it; through emotions.

One way is to use professional hypnotherapy, by a clinical psychologist, to pinpoint the cause. Once he is consciously aware of it, he has a choice of therapies to deal with it, such as Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, or re-parenting, etc., depending on the cause, but I have my doubts as to whether further hypnotherapy would be effective, long term, as the subconscious mind has other ways of bringing such identified, yet still unresolved matters to our attention, such as nightmares, or excessively violent responses.

Another way would be to use dream analysis, (page O, at 8m.com refers) but he seems like someone not really in touch with his emotions; perhaps repressing them.

Practice a relaxation method, daily, and when needed, such as: (free) http://www.drcoxconsulting.com/managing-stress.html or http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/mindbody/a/Meditation.htm or http://www.wikihow.com/Meditate or Yoga Nidra, (no flexibility required) on page L at your-mental-health.8m.com Qi Gong, Tai Chi, or regular yoga suits others better. Give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you.

It is free via the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com “EFT” & “EFT therapists” Professional is best. – There is a version for use in public places, (you could claim to have a headache, as you employ the acupressure massage/tapping your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind: “Even though I sometimes make myself angry, I deeply and completely accept myself.” These will enable you to emotionally centre yourself, when practiced regularly, and can also help you become a calmer, more self controlled person, who is less influenced by the behaviour of others.

Books: I’d first get: “Angry All The Time: An Emergency Guide to Anger Control” by Ron Potter-Efron, later, possibly: The Anger Workbook – a 13 step plan to help you. – Les Carter & Frank Minirth. – Minirth Meier Clinic Series, & Anger Management For Dummies. – W. Doyle. PhD. – Gentry, & “Feeling Good – the new mood therapy” by David D. Burns, (recommended)
Try your library, local bookstore, or www.amazon.com for these.

Let him know that you will support him as he addresses this problem, but have no intention of making a long term commitment to a relationship with such a person. Tell him that, if he doesn’t, it will not only affect the two of you, but have a strong adverse impact on the rest of his life.
