A new Canadian study analyzes sleep habits of children aged 1.5 to 5 years in search of an association between sleep problems and development ADHD. The study confirms something I've been pointing out for several years – that an unstable family established the "stress thermostat" to a Hyper-alert mode, resulting a lack of sleep, nerves, cable, and ADHD future. Boys with early sleep problems were more likely to be ADHD for 5 years.
I covered all the technical reasons for this in an earlier article by the characteristic length of adolescents, "Teen Sleep Problems Lead to Depression and drug abuse. "This new study confirms that the problems of adolescence can be an early start in programming the brain of a child's environment.
In short, the solution is stability. The more stable the environment of a child, the less likely they are to learn the wrong lesson from draw up their stress to a hyper mode. The significance of this is that the wiring of the brain in these early years is more like hardware than software – the experience governing the behavior and solutions in the coming years.
The problem of instability affects children more strongly than girls, probably due to the effects of estrogen on brain wiring for girls (higher in antioxidants and the basic state of relaxation). Thus, girls seem more able to handle a volatile first environment without becoming hyper-programmed.
Wiring of testosterone in the brain in children has less antioxidant capacity and is more prone to inflammation. Testosterone is also more suitable survival impulses to self-orientation and competitive. In a sense you could say that ADHD behavior is an example of testosterone gone wrong.
Regardless, too much stress on the family is a major problem for the wiring of the brain children. Since stress is common in large families these days, strategies must be employed to reduce the impact of stress on children. Do not argue in front of their children. They have family time, under and activities that convey a sense of stability to their children (such as family dinners and a weekly family outing). Involved in many creative and constructive learning activities as possible (both mental and physical). Nutrition to calm nerves is always helpful for stress and sleep (B vitamins, DHA, calcium and magnesium are the basics.) Good parenting is a big responsibility.
Other factors that help to prepare the scenario for ADHD, the problems of leptin in the mother, chemical toxins, excessive numbers of inflammatory brain vaccines, and poor nutrition – to name few. However, the environmental impact on the developing nervous system is significant and affects the future health and welfare of your child for life.
