She said the youngest patient who has had a 18-month-old girl who was diagnosed as bipolar, largely because she screamed incessantly and had a bipolar mother. Hellander said the baby was medicated with lithium. Hellander is actually Martha Hellander, co-founder of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation. Hmmm. I have been taking lithium myself for a few years, and fewer say that the side effects often are not fun, especially in the first days of obtaining the correct dose. That's just disgusting and a form of child abuse … his irresponsible of the mother and the doctor. I HATE doctors who think the treatment is only pills: ((I shudder to think what the effects of lithium are in a 18 months of age, especially long-term effects. This story makes me very sad ..
