child bipolar disorder symptoms

Bipolar Disorder?

I received some really startling and upsetting news today. I asked a psychiatrist for a consult and his opinion is that i have bipolar disorder. I have a lot of racing thoughts that Im finding harder to control, and apparently thats a major symptom. Will this disorder get worse with age? Will I pass this on to children? After reading medical journals and the other comments on this board about lithium, Im not sure if I want to take it. Are there any other treatment options out there?

treatment options are medication and therapy DBT (Dialectical behavioral therapy) is now being used for the help in treating bipolar disorder. it was first used for the treatment of borderline personality disorder but has been shown to help many people that are bipolar. If you are female its been shown to get worse with menopause but is still very much controllable. with the right help and the right treatment you can live a normal life. I am sadly sorry to say that yes its now also known to be genetic and your children are at higher risk of also being bipolar. That is not to say that they will have it but that they are at higher risk then the normal population of having it. If you need to talk please feel free to send me a message click my name and email I know a fair bit about bipolar. I have not been on lithium as of yet but there is about 20 other medications used to treat bipolar so please don’t worry to much.
