A marriage requires work and commitment by each spouse to succeed. If both partners are reasonably well balanced and mentally healthy, work can pay a mutually fulfilling, happy relationship. However, if your spouse has a personality disorder, for example, narcissism or sociopathy / psychopathy, the entire effort in the world on their part is unlikely that any difference in improving their relationship. It is likely that the behavior of their partner in the relationship is puzzling, hurtful and damaging.
