When someone is diagnosed with bipolar, there are two types of treatments available. These treatments are referred to as pharmacological and psychotherapeutic. Generally, work provided that the person is following doctor's orders.

Drug Therapy —

D. selective serotonin – norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors help patients suffering from many symptoms that occur with bipolar disorder. These include Cymbalta and Effexor.

E. Tricyclic antidepressants include Anafranil, Elavil, Asendin, Norpramin, Pamelor and Sinequan.

3 .- Antipsychotics

This treatment is commonly referred to as neuroleptic drugs. These can be considered as major tranquilizers, because its mainly used to put patients under sedation. There are three atypical antipsychotics, which include agonists Typical and partial dopamine. Drugs that fall into this category are: Symbyax and Tetrabenazine.

4. Mood stabilizer – These are given to "minister" mood of a person. The FDA approved lithium carbonate is the only kind of mood stabilizer. While more stabilizers mood in the market, none has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. There are probably implications for the use of drugs not yet approved by FDA and it is imperative that people talk to your doctor about your treatment options.

5. Calcium channel blockers – are used in patients to help lower blood pressure, provided that the disease is manageable. The second type of treatment for bipolar disorder is psychotherapy or rather "talk therapy." This treatment allows the patient to open up and talk about the causes that might cause depression.
