how do you get bipolar
What are the signs that a bipolar child might need hospitalization?

My son is bipolar and the school has recommended that I put in a psychiatric inpatient program at a hospital for evaluation and change med. I wonder what is the criterion to hospitalize a child with bipolar, because it is not suicide, despite making some unsafe behavior and is aggressive with adults, peers, and animals. The furor is not stable in their medicines.

There are 3 different ways a child may be hospitalized. One way is involuntary (for involuntary involuntary I mean you, not him.) This is a retention 72 hours when a child is a danger to himself or others. This is how most people are familiar. When the child is being supported this way that the hospital has to have it, regardless of insurance. The other way is simply by calling the child psychiatrist, explaining that the child's behavior outside reccomendations and control schools, and psichiatrist can then call and find a bed in the psych hospital and arrange for the child to be admitted. When a child is admitted in this way, the hospital will tell you about insurance and payment options. The 3rd way is for you to call and talk yoourself psych hospital admission. Ask if they have male pediatric beds available, if they do, require a secure information to see if your stay will be covered. If they determine that they would not be covered will talk to you about payment options. If the insurance works and the bed is available just take and admit it. I have done all 3 of the present my children for bipolar treatment. The first time was 72 hours have happened at school, and became a stay of 10 days. The second time I did 3 way I have described and stayed a week. The 3rd time he admitted that his psychiatrist had to have a bed because I could not find one available. All hospitals were full. Good luck and God bless
