klonopin bipolar
Am I being too much medication prescribed for bipolar disorder.?
II I'm bipolar and on lithium, Lamictal, Zoloft, Klonopin and Risperdal. I feel really depressed, but my psychiatrist tells me to hold on. I also have this unreal feeling much … where I totally divorced from everything around me. Does anyone get? She says I need to take this much because I have both bipolar disorder and anxiety. But I still get depressed … I do not know what to do.
You have two stabilizers of humor there (lithium and Lamictal), an antidepressant (Zoloft), Klonopin (the same group of drugs like Lamictal, but usually used for anxiety) and risperdal (antipsychotics). As someone already said – Lithium and Lamictal have to do the same – Lithium is the oldest drug used to treat bipolar disorder and is also highly toxic and many pdocs tend to avoid it. Moreover Lamictal is the newest drug approved by FDA for bipolar disorder as mood stabilizer. I think should lower lithium, first, because it is toxic, second of all because it is a nuisance to run each month, the laboratory blood tests for control concentration and the third and most important – because lithium works better for controlling mania and is not as effective in treating depression. Lamictal is moreover considered more effective in the treatment of depression – although it is a mood stabilizer and is supposed to influence both extreems. The Risepridal also given for the treatment periods of mania or that – is an antipsychotic as I mentioned (I was there for a while and gave me terrible side effects including breast milk). The reason is still very depressed due to antidepressants – Zoloft may not be suitable for you or your dose is too low for you. I am on 150 Lamictal mg, 100 mg and 2.5 mg Zoloft ZYPREXA. Zoloft tends to increase during periods of depression – I went up to 100mg – I was in much less before, but I started hitting so I had to increase the Zoloft. I guess I'm doing right now, but I also what Zoloft is not doing its job as well as it should and that maybe I should also find another antidepressant. If I were you – I get a second opnion from another pDoc because I think your paper is overmedicating you. Good luck and if you need any help do not hesitate to contact me.
