lamictal bipolar dose

Anyone who is bipolar….does the drug your taking seem less effective towards the end of your dose?

I take Lamictal in the morning (between 6 and 7 am). By 6 or 7 pm, I am incredibly irritable and agitated. I’ve tried taking it an hour or two later, but it only extends the effectiveness by an hour or two. Does anyone know if they make an extended release Lamictal?

For me no, I seem to be pretty stable through out the day. I am bipolar (hypo-manic type). I was taking 50m Seroquel (mood stabilizer) every night before bed time and 40mg Paxil in the morning (5-6 am.)

Recently I had open heart surgery and my heart sergeon switched me from Paxil to Wellbutrin. He did this because I was a 2 pack/day smoker and the Wellbutrin (aka: Zybal) works to curb the cravings as well as the withdrawl symptoms. I am taking 150mg morning and night. Since I have been on the Wellbutrin I have noticed that I still remain steady and stable through out the day but it is different from when I was using Paxil. Therefore, when I have been smoke-free for a couple of months I plan to ask about going back to the Paxil.

As best I can tell Lamictal does not have an XR version. There are three links below that will tell you more about Lamictal.

There are so many medications out there to help us bipolars that there is one or a combination of them that will work very well for you. Don’t give-up, keep after your doctor. Keep him/he informed of changes in symptoms you already have and new ones or ones that go away. Good communications between doctor and patient is one of the most essiential needs in order to develope a sucessful treatment strategy.

I hope I have helped in some small way.I would like to invite you to visit my personal website dealing with bipolar disorder. It is called Our Bipolar World. I am a long way from completeing the site but there is enough information and links to make it useful. You will find a link to my site below.

Sincerely,
