lamotrigine bipolar disorder
Plz help me taper off my psy meds?

Hello !
I am taking some psychiatric medicines ( Oxcarbazepine, Lamotrigine, Bupropion, Clonazepam ) for Schizo-Affective and Bipolar Disorder since last 4 years. Now I want to get rid of those. I have talked with my doctor regarding this but he wants me to remain on them which I dont want to. Can somebody plz help me how taper off these medications, which one to taper first and so on.
Thanks.

Hi Shivani, You’ve heard of people who have stopped taking their medication and have had terribly tragic results. You seem to have quite a few serious diagnoses and you would be seriously jeopardizing you mental health if you tried this on your own. Your doctor is trying to avoid the worse scenario for you in asking you to stay on them. Although the combination of medicine you’re on is probably giving you terrible side affects, right? You don’t have to stay with the same doctor. There are Orthomolecular psychiatrists you can try. The one I highly believe in is Neurofeedback for psychiatric disorders. My friend said she could never feel the way she did even if she tried–she was suicidal. Now she takes no meds as a result of the neurofeedback. You have to find a provider that has experience with what you have and make sure they are certified with www.BCIA.org or eegspectrum. Also there are Naturopaths that specialize in Mental health. You would have to replace the psychotropic drugs with other things that work for you. Don’t do it on your own becuase you will regret it and unless there happens to be a specialist in pharmacology or equivalent who reads this, regular lay people cannot tell you how to get off them. Do some serious research. Remember how you were before you went on them, it’ll be worse for you if you stop on your own. It could probably be done with the right professional(s) at your side. God Bless You. Check out these sites.
