paranoid schizophrenia bipolar
Why did she put me on risperdal? this drug is for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder?

a while ago i saw a psyhiatrist. i told her my problems. ill make this short.

i have social anxiety and i am paranoid people are laughing or talking about me
sometimes i hear people say things about me, but i am not sure if these things are in my head or not (for example. “i cant stand her. shes weird” stupid stuff when i was in high school)
she kept saying, “so you’re the one who hears voices?”

i understand delusions and hallucinations are part of schizophrenia, but if i have social anxiety and i am anticipating rejection, then doesnt imagining people saying negative things about me make sense? its not like the things i thought they were saying about were unrelated to the fears i already had. its not like i imagined a dog talking to me or anything. do i have ocd and these pills can work for ocd. but the situation seems supicious. this happened a while ago and i no longer take these meds.

I have social anxiety, and though i worry that people may be saying negative things about me, i have never confused my paranoia with an actual occurrence. Imagining people saying bad things about you can be part of social anxiety, but if you’re not sure what you’re imagining is real or just in your head, there may be deeper issues, even if it is realistic situations you’re imagining.

You may be reading too much into your doctor’s diagnosis, though. Often times drugs are prescribed for disorders other than those they were originally intended to treat. One of the “off-label” uses of Risperdal is for anxiety disorders. If your doctor suspected any other diagnoses, i would think she would let you know, that way you could manage them better. She was probably just trying to see if Risperdal would help with your anxiety.
