rage bipolar disorder

rage bipolar disorder
People with Bipolar Disorder and smoke marijuana…is it helpful?

Does marijuana help the conditions of Bipolar Disorder, such as raging, hyperactivity episodes? Or can it intensify depression…or worsen mood swings? I ask for advantages or disadvantages based on your knowledge or opinions. Thanks.

It is only going to cause problems.

If you take medications for bipolar the marijuana (THC) can and will interact with them- including possibly reducing their efficacy (how well they work) and increasing side effects. Using THC can lead to chronic depression and other psychiatric problems. It can bring on mania (the “raging, hyperactivity episodes”) and might not actually be calming. It could certainly cause some paranoia as part of mania and a general dissociation with a risk of severe anxiety or panic attacks.

If you smoked once you might feel better and there might not be a single negative side effect. But eventually there will and you don’t want to risk increasing your problems for a non existent benefit.

If you need more control of the mania talk with your doctor. There are many highly effective and safe medications that can help.
