How to control bipolar stepper motor using the parallel port?
I have taken a step motor of the head to read CD ROMs. Controls linear motion of the head. However, any organ can help teach the basics of this engine control. It has four wires and I control it with parallel port. Can I connect the engine with the parallel port directly, without using any resistors, capacitors and transistors? Please help me I need to know this for my work on the project ..
No, you need some kind of conductor between the port and the engine and the port can supply only a number very small current. But it can be as simple as a single chip with multiple transistors, such as – http://electronics-diy.com/stepper_motors.php However, this circuit not quite work with your motor – yours has 4 cables, which probably means it is a 2-winding, bipolar type, which requires a full-bridge unit.
