Bipolar disorder is one of several medical conditions or depressive disorders commonly called manic depression. It is a mental disorder that often affects the thoughts, perceptions, feelings and behavior. It also affects how a person feels physically and is known clinically as psychosomatic presentations.
Most times, a person with manic depression experience mood swings that change from top to bottom and again in varying degrees of severity. The two extremes of bipolar disorder are mania and depression.
The following are signs of depression:
* Sleeping more than usual
* Tired all the time, but unable to sleep
* Refusing to get out of bed for days
* Having series of uncontrollable crying
* No are interested in things they once enjoyed
* Not paying attention to daily responsibilities
* The feeling of helplessness, hopelessness, or worthless for a prolonged period
* Not able to make simple decisions
* Suicidal tendency
The following are symptoms of manic:
* "High" feeling that you can do anything, even something very risky
* Too little sleep and yet never feeling tired
* Talking very fast and jump from one idea to another
* Increased sexual desires and to enter the risky sexual behavior
* Have an unrealistic belief, hallucinations or delusions
* Target-oriented and act very impulsively, such as spending sprees, impulsive sex, business investment and impulsive.
Hypo mania is a less extreme manic episode. Hypo mania not include hallucinations or delusions, but a person can still exhibit hypo manic behavior inadequate.
If you are not aware of the limbs, you may think you are finally over her when you become manic depression, only to realize later that this state is also overstated part of being bipolar.
The four basic types of bipolar disorder:
1. Bipolar I – It is mainly characterized by manic or mixed episodes lasting at least a week. Graves manic symptoms need immediate hospital care. Symptoms of depression or mania should be a major change in the person's normal behavior.
2. Bipolar II – is defined by a pattern of depressive episodes that change over and over with hypo manic episodes, but this stage has no full-fledged manic or mixed episodes.
3. Bipolar disorder not otherwise specified (BP-NOS) – This stage is diagnosed when a person has symptoms of bipolar disorder that do not meet diagnostic criteria for either bipolar I or II. The person may have very few symptoms of be diagnosed with bipolar disorder I or II and most of the time the symptoms did not last long enough.
4th Cyclothymic disorder (cyclothymia) – This is a mild form of bipolar disorder. People with cyclothymia have episodes of mania hiccups that often switch back and forth with a slight depression for at least two years. But the symptoms are indicative and not eligible for any other type of bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder is not a sign of a character flaw or weakness, what is a serious medical condition that requires medical treatment like any other condition. Understanding the real reason behind this illness is a great help to our loved ones or other people who suffered the same condition.
