how bipolar disorder is diagnosed

My doctor has diagnosed bipolar disorder and put me on Abilify.?
One of the side effects is weight gain. How does it occur? Is it b / C this drug makes you want to eat more or is it b / c of what it does to your body. Also, how much time I realize Improvement B4? Many thanks!
I'm on Abilify 10 mg and I have no weight gain. I weigh about 120 pounds and I'm 5'6 "now Depakote is known for weight gain .. so if you are at the time that could be the problem. Volume: Abilify 10 mg Lamicatal 200 mg (mood stabilizer like Depakote) Geodon 40 mg (for mania / psychosis) On the Abilify work quickly … I do not remember .. a good guess is two weeks. Now for me, Abilify is not a magic wand … but a steady decline suicidal thoughts. I guess what I'm trying to say .. Abilify is not made me happy, but I stopped being sad. Good luck! ((((( hugs )))))
