where and how do i apply for housing for my daughter and myself while i go through hcv treatment?
i am not working currently and have been spending up to 3 days a week for doctors apts bloodwork for both bipolar and hcv biopsys and seeing specialists.i am soon to start treatment for hcv i cannot work i assume more than part time or i loose my medicaid benifits which cover all of my phsychiatric as well as the expensive interferon treatments, my delima where are my daughter and i going to live, my parents are old and say we are disrupting them my mother is ill, and………… whatever where do i start and what are the guidlines for housing in houston? i have heard of other people who are recieving help but have no idea where they started i have applied for ssi but have heard nothing and probably wont until i start, please someone just point me in the right direction.
Yes, there should be a Human Services Department where you can get food stamps and a monetary amount to help you each month; often there is also a listing of services available to you also. The Housing Authority has two waiting lists: one for project housing (short list) and one for section 8 (long list). You can apply for both lists at the same time. If need be, take your papers to an attorney to assist you in getting SSDI right away. You may have to appeal, but that is par for the course these days. Don’t despair, or give up. It will well be worth it!!! Also, you may want to get a social worker to help you through this time. Perhaps your psychiatrist can recommend one for you. Things will improve and I know how difficult it is when you are in transition and ill. I had to start my life all over again in 2004, and I was ill and in need of housing also. Keep the faith.
