topamax bipolar side effects

has anyone had any success with topamax?
here is the cocktail of meds that i am currently taking…10mg lexapro, 200 mg lamictal, 400 mg seroquel and now up to 100 mg topamax. i am hoping that all of this stuff will work. i was told that the topamax would possibly help lose some of the weight that i am having problems getting off since the bipolar meds. has anyone had any success with topamax? did anyone have any side effects? just wanting to see what i am in for. thanks a lot!!!
ok, now that i saw a response that says that it is a danger to my health to take it, i dont know what to do. my doc prescribed it to me. if she thought that it would cause long term damage, she wouldnt have me take it right? i could really use some more help!
There are serious neurological and other bad side effects to Topamax – like drooling, slurred speech, forgetfulness (really bad like Alzheimer’s – and it will affect your performance in school), word recall problems (can’t remember the names of everyday objects…), decreased sweating, motor impairments like incoordination and difficulty moving, difficulty sleeping, eye pain, double vision, blurred vision (I even developed Glaucoma) & more. It is a vasoconstrictor which means that it narrows the blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the brain and other organs of the body. It is really bad. And… I won’t be surprised if there is a law suit against it soon. Do not take it – especially if you just want to loose weight. It will mess you up. It will take a few months to a year and you won’t really notice it, but you will have serious neurologic & and other problems. And your body will become addicted to it and have a hard time when stopping the medication . And – yes – you will have lost weight because your body is sick. Don’t just abruptly stop the med if you decide to. Tell your doctor you want to stop if it is making you sick. He will have to wean you off of it.
I guess that possibly some people have had an okay response to it but no-one that I talked to. I was given it for migraines and it really messed me up. Ask a pharmacist about it. Compare the risks to the benefits, and see if is really necessary and if there is a possible alternative to take. The side effects did reverse for me, but it took awhile and interfered with my life and health.
Like it or not it is true. But do what you want – it is your body – maybe it won’t be so bad for you.
Not all docs are aware that the side effects are so bad. Usually people are taking the med b/c they are not feeling well, neurologically, to begin with. So, a lot of people might not be reporting to the docs that the med is making them sick – some just might think it is them. This has only been my experience, however. See the medical research on it to make your conclusion.
