transistor bipolar npn

Using a transistor switch to control the loading and dischrging of charges through a capacitor?
I'm trying to design a circuit which has a capacitor that charges entrance ramp voltage, and discharges to the load resistance when the voltage across the capacitor (V_c) reaches a level of Cerain (s say, 8V). After unloading, when V_c is low (ie, 1.5V), then the capacitor starts to charge again. I have a general purpose NPN bipolar junction transistor, I'm trying to use it as a switch. The transistor is between the + of the capacitor and the load resistance. When the capacitor charges, I want the transistor OFF (for So the capacitor can build positions) When the capacitor s download, I want the transistor to be ON (so that charges can travel to the load resistance) What type I add electrical components to realize this? My condenser is 1mF.
I use a 555 timer.
