true life bipolar
What can I do to overcome bipolar disorder?

My doctor told me I will be on med for the rest of my life but there is a chance that he could be wrong. Is this true?
What the things beside med that I can do?

Being bipolar myself I researched as much (and still do) whatever I can on bp. I subscribe to a great magazine for people with bipolar as well. The website is www.bphope.com.

Medication is very important, but only part of managing bp.
A support group such as www.about.com/bipolar and getting therapy is very much an important part of managing bp.

Keep all appointments with your psychiatrist, whom I’m assuming made the diagnosis. If not, get a second opinion with a psychiatrist. There is still alot of stigma associated with this disorder and many Dr.’s are not qualified to give this type of diagnosis, which is why it needs to be by a psychiatrist.

There is no way to cure it, but it can be managed. Be aware of changes in your behavior that could mean a change in mood is coming; learn what your triggers are (situations that can cause a mood change); discuss the disorder with your family and ask them to help you if they see a change in your behavior that you may not be aware of.

The book named by the above subscriber is a very good book. I have it and have referred to it many times.

Good Luck
